Robert Thornton produced an incredible performance in his match against Michael Mansell in the quarter-finals of the World Cup of Darts but it wasn’t enough to earn Scotland a place in the semi-finals.
The Ayshire ace averaged a fraction under 108 and fired in a 121 finish to keep his country in the match as he defeated Northern Ireland’s Mansell 4-3, following teammate Peter Wright’s defeat to Brendan Dolan.
But the Northern Ireland pair ended Scottish hopes with a 4-1 victory in the pairs decider.
Scotland had seen off Russia on Friday and Sweden on Saturday with strong performances to reach the last eight for the first time.
