ROBERT THORNTON 6 – 1 Mark Walsh

Robert Thornton won through to the second round of the Players Championship Finals with a brilliant 6-1 victory against Mark Walsh on Friday afternoon.

The reigning UK Open winner hit six doubles in nine attempts as he cruised to victory at Butlins, Minehead.

Thornton started in style, taking out 120 to hold but Walsh pegged him back by winning the second leg, with both players opening their 180 accounts.

‘The Thorn’ pinned double ten in each of the next two legs as he moved into a 3-1 lead.

The Scottish ace then increased his advantage to three legs on tops, before finding the same bed to go 5-1 up.

Thornton hit his second maximum in what proved to be the final leg, as he wrapped up the match on double 14.

He will take on either Gary Anderson or Wez Newton in the last 16.
