Robert Thornton survived a scare in the opening round of the Players Championships in Minehead, where he defeated Darren Webster in a last leg decider.

The Scottish ace bedded tops to progress to the last 16 after his opponent had missed two darts for the win.

The highlight of Thornton’s victory, which included five 180s for the former UK Open winner, was a 157 checkout.

‘The Thorn’ will take on Jamie Caven in round two on Saturday.
