Robert Thornton won through to the second round of the European Championship with a 6-2 victory against Rowby-John Rodriguez.
The Scottish ace hit four 180s in a determined performance, which saw him defeat the promising Austrian youngster.
Thornton pinned tops to take the opening leg but Rodriguez levelled before the Scotsman bedded double five to edge 2-1 in front.
‘The Thorn’ fired in the first maximum of the match and followed it immediately with the second as he moved two legs clear after his opponent had missed a dart at double 17 for a 154 checkout.
Both players hit 180s in the fifth leg which Thornton won to make it 4-1 but Rodriguez hit back by pegging double 18.
Thornton’s response was to fire in his fourth 180 before hitting double four to go within a leg of victory.
And the former UK Open champion nailed double six to complete the win, setting up a last 16 clash with Gary Anderson or Terry Jenkins.
